Hey Andrew! It's great to hear that your Z390 motherboard is still performing well. Adding a PCIe card for additional M.2 drives is definitely a possibility, but it's important to consider the data lanes. The number of data lanes available will depend on the specific PCIe card and how it connects to your motherboard. I'd recommend checking the specifications of the PCIe Express card you're interested in and comparing it with your motherboard's specifications to ensure compatibility. Additionally, keep in mind that sharing data lanes may impact the performance of the M.2 drives. Hope this helps!

You can ask them to send you a new BIOS chip preflashed with the BIOS version you
want. I don't remember the cost, it's not expensive. I think they still sell them.

If that doesn't work out you will need to find someone with a ROM flasher device
and manually flash the ROM chip with the correct BIOS. Some service centers can
do this for you or you can buy a ROM flasher and do it yourself. There are a ton
of guides on youtube showing how to do it and what you need.

As stated having these issues on the Taichi z690 (basically z690 Taichi Carrera)
F5-6400J3239G32GX2-TZ5RK is the RAM kit I have.

G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6400 (PC5 51200) Desktop Memory Model F5-6400J3239G32GX2-TZ5R

It only trains and works in slots 1&3. In 2&4 it will boot but will not train and instantly crashes anything that tries to use the RAM. I verified this all with MEMTEST as well, it only passes with this kit in slots 1&3, not 2&4. This is confusing because the manual states that slots 2&4 are preferred for dual-channel configurations.

Any one have any idea why?

Hey Andrew! It's great to hear that your Z390 is still performing well. Adding a PCIe card to hold additional M.2 drives is definitely a possibility. However, it's important to consider that the card itself will use PCIe lanes, which might affect the bandwidth available for your existing M.2 drives. The number of data lanes provided by the card depends on the specific Development model you choose. I would recommend checking the specifications of the PCIe card you're considering and comparing it with the available PCIe lanes on your motherboard. That way, you can make an informed decision. Good luck with your upgrade!

Could be a faulty memory channel on the CPU. If you have any other RAM to verify
with (in slots 2 and 4) it would help rule out a compatibility issue. I don't see
how it could be incompatible RAM though if it's working as it should in slots 1 and 3.

It may be worth trying a BIOS update if one is available that is newer than your
current version. Failing that, I would RMA that CPU just to be on the safe side
and rule out a marginal/bad IMC on the CPU.

It turns out the ram for some reason isn't fully compatible. I tried this kit since microcenter nearby had it and corsair listed it as compatible for the Taichi z690 even though ASROCK doesn't.

https://www.microcenter.com/product/647391/corsair-dominator-platinum-rgb-64gb-(2-x-32gb)-ddr5-5200-pc5-41600-cl40-dual-channel-desktop-memory-kit-cmt64gx5m2b5200-black

And it worked in slots 2&4, passed memtest and no crashes in games or apps.

My only guess is the ram was running in some weird single channel mode in 1&3?
It's really weird that it passed test in only those slots.

Would be nice to get some feedback from ASROCK about this.

I'd also add now that I think about it, it kept retraining every time I booted up.

AMD Motherboards : B550 Taichi no video display after bios update

Subject: B550 Taichi no video display after bios update

Hi

I have a B550 Taichi that is probably not even 2 years old yet. This system has grow quite a bit more complicated than I envisioned. I've been running TrueNAS Scale and it is a NAS but I also run a couple of VMs. I recently added a GPU for passthrough to a VM, however was unable to get things working quite right to IOMMU gouping that kept the 10G Intel 82599 NIC in the same group as the GPU.

Today I decided to update the BIOS on the board with the latest B550TC2.62 update. Everything looked normal and it said the update had finished and to hit enter to reboot. Ever since then I have not been able to get a display from either video card. So I can't get into the bios to make any changes at all, let alone to see if there are some updated control that I would have over the IOMMU groups.

I have considerable time, money and data in this machine and am feeling a bit worried now. I have seen the machine start TrueNAS a couple of times on restarting, but also there have been times where the OS didn't seem to start.

Any suggestions on how I can get the video to come out of one of my GPU cards so I can make further BIOS configs? I've already tried clicking the reset button on the mobo itself. And finally tried the reset CMOS button on the rear powerpanel, but still get no video out.

I hope someone is able to help out with ideas. I'm really gonna be bumming if I have to rebuild this thing from scratch from another mobo and reconfiguring the OS......ugh

Thanks, Derek

To preface this, previously I was running a Ryzen 1700. I updated the BIOS via the appropriate path to 7.10 and now have a 5800X running without issue. With the newer CPU I was hopeful I wanted to get a larger amount of RAM and pulled the trigger prior to checking around. Naturally the QVL for the Taichi X370 is a bit out of date now.

Current:
G-Skill, 3200, CL14, 2x8GB

On-hand:
Mushkin Lumina, 3200, CL16, 2x32GB, 16-18-18-38

No overclocks in place aside from XMP for the G-Skill currently used.

Does this new memory have a snowball's chance in a hot place of working at normal speeds/timings? Any experience/suggestions would be appreciated.
