I upgraded one to BIOS 5.70 and it booted fine with the 2400G that was in there before. However, when I plugged in the 3600X the system got really unhappy.

* It takes around 15-20 tries before the BIOS will POST, often requiring a hard power cycle with the power switch on the PSU. I will describe the difficulty down below.

* I have an old Radeon 6450 GPU plugged in (to get a display). I also tried plugging in a far more modern RX580, but the behavior is similar (it might successfully post a little more often, but it still fails most of the time).

* When the BIOS does post, however, the system appears to come up fine.

* I tried many configurations. I tried the stock configuration, I tried undervolting, I tried turning on overclocking but setting the frequency low (3.8 GHz). I tried running the memory at various speeds including 2133. I tried changing the memory out. I tried a different PSU. I tried a more modern GPU (an RX580)... none of this messing around changes the POST behavior by much. Possibly changing out the GPU helps it post a little more often but the behavior is basically the same.

The BIOS post behavior is as follows:

* Power button. System powers on, CPU fan starts at low speed, system fan does not. GPU fan does not. No display (obviously). System is burning around 35W. The system always starts this way and will then proceed to behave in three different ways:

(1) The BIOS will power cycle the machine itself every 10-15 seconds or so. I observe the CPU fan turning off, then on again. The watt meter shows that the system power cycled itself. This will repeat many times (several minutes sometimes) until either the system posts or the system locks up.

(2) When the system posts, the CPU fan will cycle to full power and the case and GPU fans will also turn on. The system posts a few seconds later and works normally.

(3) Sometimes the CPU fan will cycle to full power and the case and GPU fans will turn on, but the system will fail to post (no display, no beep codes, nothing).   In this situation the power button no longer works... neither hitting the power button OR holding it down will power the machine down. I wind up having to switch the PSU off, wait a few seconds, then switch it on again.

(4) Sometimes the CPU fan remains at low speed and stops power cycling. Again the system has locked up. The power button does not work either momentary or held-down, requiring the PSU to be switched off and then on again.

Note that when the system does post, it seems to operate perfectly.

Note that this behavior is definitely BIOS / POST related. It occurs whether I have any storage connected up or not. That is, it has nothing to do with the operating system.

Note also that when this BIOS does post, it doesn't seem to recognize its own ethernet adapter so I can't (for example) pxeboot the box. USB recognition seems to be spotty too. SATA recognition appears to be reliable.

Finally, note that similar configurations on the B450 mobo with the latest BIOS for that mobo work perfectly. Its the B350 mobo that is having all the issues.

Hopefully this helps!

Hey Matt,

strange, I'm experiencing all the same discribed issues with a B450 Fatal1ty Gaming-ITX/ac and my new Ryzen 5 3600. Exactly the same. I contacted the German support but there only guess is a defectice CPU. My guess is, that AGESA 1.0.0.1 is unstable in various configurations and I'm waiting for a new BIOS. MSI draw back all BIOS Versions they released with AGESA 1.0.0.1 caus of instability.

As JBG84 says, Definitely wait until ASRock puts up a new BIOS. 5.80 on the B350 PRO4 is broken (as is 5.70 on the B350 gaming-itx/ac). My B350 gaming-itx/ac takes 15 tries before it will POST with my 3600X. Once it does, everything is fine, but it looks like numerous people can't get their B350 systems to POST at all across several mobo vendors.

Hopefully ASRock will resolve this soon.

In the mean time, anyone who has already updated and is having POST problems... it is probably not your CPU. See if you can get it to post and note that if the power button stops working you may have to cycle the PSU power switch (off, wait 10 seconds, on). If you have already updated to a dud BIOS, but you are able to eventually get it to POST, that means you will be able to update to a new BIOS when it comes out without having to put your old CPU back into the mobo.

I managed to get it to boot. It turns out that it was the pcie sata expansion card preventing it from going. I have removed it, but now my new problem is how do I install it back? Reattaching the exp card just adds the same problem back. My drive slots are already full, so I can't really just plug the drive in somewhere else.

Hi guys. I have a Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 motherboard and I have a question regarding the description of the BIOS update.

The description of version 5.80 says: Supports AMD next generation Ryzen ??processors. My question is: what generation does the description refer to?

Now I have a Ryzen 7 1800X and I guess I can upgrade to a Ryzen 7 2XXX .. but can I also upgrade to a Ryzen 3XXX?

Thanks

Hello,
Longtime Mac user here, building my first gaming PC. This is my first build in 15+ years, so I decided to get some of the newly released components this week. I went with a ASRock X570 Steel Legend Mother Board, AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Sapphire Radeon RX 5700, 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3600

My full component list is here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rNj36s

Everything arrived today, and I very excitedly put it all together in the case. I plug it into my monitor and it won't show BIOS when I boot up the computer. I've tried a few different monitors and TVs with different HDMI cables that work on other devices. I have also tried removing the RX 5700 and plugging HDMI direct into the onboard video output. That also did not work. I have tried the CPU cables (4+4) plugged into the 8pin slot, but there is another open 4 pin slot next to it. My understanding is that extra 4pin connector is not necessary to boot. All of the monitors in my house right now are technically TVs, would that effect it?

The lights on the motherboard start flashing as soon as the power supply is turned on, and all the fans turn on when I press the power button. There is a LED indicator that flashes when I press keys on the keyboard, but no video output.

Any suggestions?

I've seen a couple people on Gigabyte boards reporting the same issue as well, though a Gigabyte rep said they're working on a fix. No idea if it's caught ASRock's attention yet.

Which issue? The m.2 recognition problem? The post/boot problem? Or the general instability?

Thanks guys for the replies as far as the build goes.

CPU - ryzen 7 2700
Gpu - Nvidia gtx 1070
Ram - 32 gb
Mobo - b450 itx/ac

Distro I am using is ubuntu studio 19.04
Kernel 5.0

As far as the hangs I will get a hard hang everyone once in a while throughout the day but most of it is my software using (blender) will hang but my other apps in the background run okay. It takes any where from 5 - 10 hangs will cause a hard hang to come out.

And what I use the computer for is content creation. 3d modeling, digital sculpting, video editing. I only installed games to test and make sure if it was the gpu or not. But I get hangs in games too.

I hope that answers all your questions. Thank you again for replying and trying to help me out with this.

I'm pretty sure the bios just plain broke compatibility. I can physically insert just the card in the slot, and it will boot fine. But the moment I plug a drive in, it just gets stuck at the logo. I've swapped many drives and cables, and nothing works.

so I did disable the global C states and the hangs are still happening tested it in a game and in 3d software, almost thought it was fixed because in the game I was able to play 1 match with out hang, it was better but not solved.

Same issue with x370 gaming itx/ac. 3900x in my case. Doesn't recognize my WD SATA SSD. Re-seated SSD. Re-flashed. Re-seated memory. Nothing works. I seated my 2700x back in the MB and voila everything works again. There is something very wrong with the 3000 series bios for x370 and x470.

And I have noticed some lag in the PC turning on as well. The fan ramp up when I turn on the computer initially and then it takes a good while for POST. Everything works just fine after that. Except for not detecting my SSD lol.

Anyone from ASRock going to chime in? We need help yo! I got a 500$ processor to play on it. Now i can't cuz I can't boot into my goddamn windows install! LOL! FIX IT!!!

Same bootloop issues with a B450 Fatal1ty Gaming-ITX/ac and a 3700X.
I've read on reddit that some other people that had the issue got a reply from asrock that the cpu must be defective. Absolute bullsh*t.

Fix the damn bios asrock, stop blaming others.

Is there a beta bios floating around anywhere with the newer agesa?

Addendum: Updated the bios to 3.30 according to the instructions with a 2700X and the board works fine with the 2700X.

As soon as I put the 3700X in, it bootloops without the casefans spinning.
Graphics card fan and aio do work.

I'm interested in putting together a new build using a B450m Steel Legend and a Ryzen 3700X.

The spec sheet for the mobo says it supports DDR4 3533+(OC) on Pinnacle ridge, but the QVL list for it only shows a few ram kits past 3200mhz+ and the supported speed is still only 3200 for each one.

Can I assume I can't run DDR4 at 3600mhz on this mobo? Trying to avoid paying extra for a frequency I can't use. Thank you.

My Fatal1ty X370 Gaming X with gskill F4-3200C14D-16GFX (3200mhz) only boots properly if I set memory clock speed to 3066 MHz or lower with 1.35v. Maybe that helps.

Do you have a reference for this info? Thanks.

I could prevent my DPC_watchdog_violation on a Fatal1ty X370 Gaming X with gskill F4-3200C14D-16GFX (3200mhz) only if I set memory clock speed to 3066 MHz or lower with 1.35v. Maybe that helps.
