a) Remove the heatsink from the SSD
b) Better choose a SSD without own heatsink

Ryzen 3000 series thread here:

There is already a lot of good info there. These issues are far reaching (all manufacturers) so I made a sticky to keep things all in one place.

B450M Steel legend - BIOS v2.50 + Ryzen 3600

- Unable to boot Windows 10 from my SAMSUNG SM951 AHCI M.2 SSD (MZHPV256HDGL-000H1), it's recognised in the device storage list, but it's not listed in boot menu. CSM set to Dissabled, I can Install windows but there are no way to boot it.

- Fantastic tuning are not working with DC fans, I you set a fan curve, when you complete the BIOS post and windows is loading, the fans always are working at full speed.

The MB has 8 SATA ports.
Is it possible to have such config:
- 4 SATA ports for RAID 10
- 1 SATA port for HDD in pair with PCIe SSD in slot 2 (for enhanced performance)
- 2 SATA ports for hot-swap HDDs (for backup)
- 1 SATA port for DVD writer.

I'm asking because UEFI offers two option for SATA ports: RAID-AHCI, but I can't determine is it one setting for all drives? I can't see individual options for each port.

I have the exact same setup, but none of my 3 NVME drives are detected in storage (Samsung 512GB 970 Pro, Samsung 500GB 970 Evo and Samsung PM961. It was only ever detected twice on an older BIOS and at that time it did load into Windows fine. After powering off the NVME drive hasn't shown again.

Fantastic tuning doesn't work for me either. Fans are maxed out and driving me nuts since I have 5 of them.

AMD Motherboards : No Boot when graphics card in lower PCIe slot

Subject: No Boot when graphics card in lower PCIe slot

My system:

* Mobo: ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4
* CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
* 32G ECC memory
* GPU: see below
* Currently running Debian Linux

My goal is to use two graphics cards: (1) NVidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and (2) Radeon RX 580
(eventual goal is GPU passthrough/IOMMU virtualization)

However, whenever there is any graphics card in the bottom x16 PCIe slot (PCIE3), the machine does not boot.

Note: it *does* get to the BIOS setup screen. However, after that the screen goes blank, and makes no progress. I do not see the GRUB boot loader screen, for instance.

In this hung state, there *is* a video signal (my monitor would show a "no signal" message otherwise), but it is blank. Also, the motherboard light is off, so it has passed all of those health checks.
Lastly, in this hung state, the network light for the LAN is off (in case that is helpful).

Here are things I've tried:

1. Nvidia card in the PCIE1 slot, alone - boots OK
2. Radeon card in the PCIE1 slot, alone - boots OK
3. Nvidia card in the PCIE3 slot, alone - no boot
4. Nvidia card in the PCIE3 slot, alone - no boot
5. Nvidia card in the PCIE1 slot, Radeon in the PCIE3 slot - no boot (this is what I eventually want to work).

I have updated to the newest available BIOS version (P1.30). No change.
I have reset CMOS. No change.

The manual indicates that PCIE3 should support a graphics card in x4 mode.
But even with a single card in this slot, I cannot make it work.

Anyone have advice on this?

I contacted ASRock support, and gave them the above information, and I got a 1-line reply back: "Motherboard support no more than 2 video cards".

So, either they misunderstood me, or they meant to write "no more than 1 video card".

But from the documentation I find, and even the printed manual, the second x16 PCIe slot should support a graphics card.
And even with a single card in the system, in that second slot, it does not boot.

So, the tech support does not seem... very helpful (:

Anyone here have ideas?

AMD Motherboards : High CPU Temperature in BIOS

I have a similar question.

I recently updated my UEFI, and so fan settings were reset.
I tried setting the CPU fan settings to custom, to lower speed when computer is idle.

The CPU fan can be set to monitor "CPU", "M/B", or "TCTL".

I initially set to CPU, and set my temperatures, and fan speeds. When I tested in windows, my fan speed would not go up, at all, when the CPU was under load and temperatures were rising.

In order for it to work, I had to set the monitor to TCTL, and used temperatures with an offset of +27c. This seems to work, but now, because there is a hard limit of 100c in the temperature settings, the critical temp can only be 100 at the max, which, in TCTL mode, means a die temp of 73c. Does that mean my computer will shut down if my cpu reaches 73c? That could happen...

How to I properly set the CPU fan???

I can't test much at the moment, I came back from vacation and my TR machine is all messed up now. ?Constantly crashing, throwing Dr Debug codes, etc. ?I am working to isolate the issue, but am thinking my MB is toast. ?I already replaced the RAM, SSD and GPU, re-installed windows, etc. ?Re-flashed the bios, running only the BIOS defaults and still having lots of hangups, even before the bios screen... ?This thing is probably going back to Microcenter today (finally glad I bought one of those protection plans).

Yep, and the problem with that comes with the hard limit of 100c you hit in the fan settings in UEFI. That means your critical temp setting , when in TClTL mode, is 100c, but that is really 73c.

With my big cooler, I haven't yet reached over 69c under stress test, but on a hot day, I would hit that. Not sure what the consequences would be...

Well, yes. However I have seen other articles stating the same numbers. I guess someone should drop a line to AMD for a clarification, or just dig through their documentation.

its already set at 1900 max

Hi,

Thanks for the answer but all the models of SSD NVME PCIE x4 come with a heatsink and the manufacturer say to not remove the heatsink.

In my opinion,the heatsink that comes with the motherboard should have been designed as modular. Allowing to remove when necessary.

Regards.

Hello good afternoon I have a problem, I used a R7 1800x with GTX 970 SLI. I bought a R7 3700x but it does not work with the GTX 970 SLI, does not appear video. When I use the R7 3700x with a single GTX 970 GPU works no problem. Would you like to know the problem that is occurring is because of Bios? Or would it be the processor?

Yes, that is a complete stupid situation.
The flagship boards cannot use the new featured PCIe 4 devices without modifications.
And with all the other problems: What a bad start of this new platform.

So my friend who has a X370 Taichi is also experiencing the same issue, although his is not as bad as mine, his will at least post and boot. And it'll run just fine at 2133mhz. If he turns it up anyhigher. No post no boot. Same as mine. Asrock lets go , where are the updates, Please make our boards usable.

I was hoping someone could tell me whether an issue I'm having is more likely to be a hardware or software issue. I have an R5 3600 and a B450M Steel Legend, and all the fans (both case fans and CPU fan) spin at full speed when booting or waking the machine from sleep mode, but then spin down after a second or 2 to a low-power state (in which even the LEDs go off, which is particularly strange), and refuse to spin up at any other time.

This is particularly troublesome because my CPU can reach 95C at full load, and the CPU fan never increases its speed to help cool it. I only have bios 2.1, so I'm hoping maybe this is the issue? Or is it more likely that the board is defective? (I'm using the stock cooler, by the way, if that makes a difference)

I know there have been a lot of issues with the Ryzen 3000 CPUs, so I was hoping somebody else might've had this one?

I've used 3000mhz cl-15 and 3200 to 3666 cl-16 and It shows zero difference in benchmarks.
